Battery powered ATEM Mini Pro

Parts:
ATEM Mini Pro (12V power)
Peplink Surf SOHO (10-20V power)
Intel Compute Stick (5V ~2.1A USB power)
Canon RF800 (5V USB power)
Saramonic Blink 500 (2x 5V USB power)
MAXOAK K2 (185 Wh battery, 12V DC and 2.1A USB)
DC power splitter and adapters

Next steps:
Connect camera, wireless mic (1 tx and 1 rx), network in order to do a stream test. I hope to get 6 hours fully loaded.

With more power I will also add my better cameras, but this is my minimum setup.

Test run

First battery test:

  • Atem
  • Router
  • Compute stick
  • Camera (stock battery disconnected)

6h 45m

Next test: very-low bitrate settings at 24p

I’ll have to see which services can handle this framerate. It sounds like some will have issues or transcode up automatically.

My content from Seattle:

Fast forward to about 22 minutes. Unfortunately my DSK was not ready in time for this event.

Finally got my picture and picture working.

After unplugging from ATEM Control Software the buttons are always the first interface.

Great to see the reality of the peaceful protests. Good job Karl!

Thanks. I definitely need to adapt my shooting style to the bandwidth I have available. Maybe I can push up to 2.5mbit, but probably not much more.

The ATEM Mini Pro is completely capable of recording a watchable quality anything without a large amount of camera rotation at 24 fps / 2.0 mbps. It is quite a bit better than the Instagram feeds.

Great work. I’m also looking to built a portable Atem multi-camera set up. Probably not something that’s going to be moved whilst in use but I’ll be using outdoor with battery power and using public transport to get from a to b.

Today I figured out that the Saramonic takes in interference from its charging circuit.

This is my refit for the ATEM, 2 compute sticks, router, and battery.

Significantly I realized I can use my DC power splitter to provide an extension port for my camera (works at 12V).

I put the ATEM on the bottom space to prevent accidental button mashing. This also meant I had to position the router horizontally.

Here’s a level-up feature: a microphone flag and an interview mic.
